Will Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Retain Audio Jack In The 2016 iPhone 7?
Although most of the leaks about iPhone 7 have hinted that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was dropping the audio jack on the device, there is a different story. A fresh leak now claims the iPhone 7 could actually come with a headphone port. The latest claims that Apple would retain the audio jack in the next iPhone emerged from an unidentified user of the Chinese Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR)-like social media Weibo.
Killing the audio jack
Doing away with the audio jack in the next iPhone was supposed to allow Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to produce a thinner handset. Moreover, it was also claimed that killing the headphone port would allow Apple to build an iPhone with stereo speakers, thus boosting the audio quality of its smartphones. Of course, eliminating the audio port was also seen as one of the upgrades that would separate the iPhone 7 from the iPhone 6S.
Audio jack debate
But the latest leaks showing the internals of iPhone 7 with what looks like an audio jack have sparked a debate and created confusion for some. There are all great reasons for why Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) would want to do away with the 3.5mm headphone jack, some of which have already been cited such as building a slimmer device. There are also some great reasons for why Apple would want to keep the audio jack, one of them being that it would want to make that change part of the radical upgrades in the 2017 iPhone 7S, which same say would be named iPhone 8.
So far, the popular opinion is that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) would eliminate the audio jack in the 2016 iPhone 7. But there is no guarantee that would be the case. Perhaps the emergence of the two diametrically opposing leaks about the iPhone 7 audio jack could be a pointer to Apple working on two different versions of iPhone 7 prototypes and hasn’t decided which one would see the light of day.
