Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Is Right by Focusing On IoT and Not Mobile

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) appears to believe that there is more than the mobile to focus in the current atmosphere. One such thing is the focus on the Internet of Things (IoT). The company is keen on Build Conference on voice, which is considered to be the OS of the IoT. The software firm has been holding its Build Conference since March 29, and the conference will close on Friday. In the conference, the focus is clearly on the voice side for the developers while it revealed a number of fresh products and services. The software firm also disclosed an ‘Anniversary Update’ for the Windows 10, educational trips to Mars using the HoloLens besides a fresh SDK for the Xbox one.

Something In Hidden Agenda

It seems that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Cortana technology is the hidden agenda for all that happening in the conference since Tuesday. The next updated version of the Windows Ten, which was launched in July last year, is scheduled for release in the upcoming summer season. If reports are to be believed, then the next OS would have many Voice updates which could be useful for IoT.

Also, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s CEO reiterated its focus on the cloud. This could also be a part of its several initiatives since voice resolves certain key issues while moving to the IoT era from the device or cloud era. As there is a need for intelligence in doing everything, the distinctiveness of the Voice is that it has the potential to be a security feature. It should be an easy one for processing since things have been made easy with small or a simple form of touching the interfaces.

Mobile Space Avoided

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has learned lessons in focusing on the mobile space, where it could not taste the success it expected. That is mainly because Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) took away the big chunk of the market share. It would also be futile to chase when the company knew very well that it was not easy in replacing the existing OS in the mobile segment. Therefore, it preferred to focus on areas where others are lagging. Also, the ultimate aim is to generate revenue or show growth in revenue and profit. That can be achieved with a focus on IoT and the Cortana technology.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) appears to have taken the right decision to focus on Cortana to read calendar appointments of Google. The company is trying to make the voice as the future of its OS. That means things like the interoperability could be witnessed as a Trojan horse. Currently, it is tough to find any other tech firms engaged in developing such stuff, and that make the software firm to be unique, at least, in the near term. Of course, big money is needed to defend the features, and it would be premature to think whether any critical mass apps will be deployed until interoperability concern is resolved. The company might find a solution to handle it.

Immediate Profit Not Seen

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) see there is enormous potential in Voice if not today but will have an upper hand when it is transformed into a big thing in the next few years. The company is probably re-inventing its old genre in visualizing things to come. The company suffered the costly loss of missing the mobile app market and it does not want to be seen in the missing game again. However, monetization or profitability could take some time. In any case, it is a worth gamble. IoT will become widespread as the Internet spreads every nook and corner of the developing economies.
