Challenges For AT&T Inc. (T), Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NOK), and Alphabet Inc (GOOGL)’s Google Before 5G Becomes A Reality
Currently, fourth generation or 4G technology is making its presence felt across the globe though it is yet to reach a wider area of the globe. That was because 3G is only now getting more popular in developing markets. However, it would not be too far for the users to start hearing about 5G wireless technology services. Each one was different from the preceding one. Therefore, it was but natural that 5G technology would be way ahead of the present wireless technology. That will also throw challenges to companies like AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL).
Defining Global Standards
As carriers, device makers, and technology giants, these companies were groping in the dark to define the international standards for 5G. Though it might take some more time for the 5G to reach the market, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) need to do the groundwork to make the 5G service a grand success. These companies, as well as, others involved in the business need to make sure that everything was in place for the perfect launch of 5G service.
The involved parties are predicted to continue their negotiations at least until the year 2019. That meant the 5G technology or 5G cellphone networks would not be possible until then either in the America or the rest of the world. That means the consumers could see the light of the day of 5G only next decade. However, that does not prevent operators such as Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ)’s Wireless wing, as well as, telecom device manufacturers like Ericsson from going ahead with the trials of 5G. Interestingly, several of the demonstrations could be on display during the Mobile World Congress, which was going on in Barcelona.
What It Means To Users
AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) are focusing more on three key areas, which could underpin the 5G networks. That is when the stakeholders finalize the global standards. Most mobile networks are fast already with download speeds reaching over 15 MB per second. This allows smartphone users to stream songs from Spotify or watch videos from YouTube apart from checking their Facebook Inc (NASDAQ) messages.
THE 5G plans allow carriers like AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) to offer mobile Internet speeds of over 10 GBBS a second. That was worth about 100 times quicker than the current networks. Similarly, device makers like Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) or Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) should be ready to accommodate the features that would enthrall the users. However, the 5G technology will not come for cheap at least in the initial stages. Apart from the quick download of a lengthy film in a matter of few seconds, the tech would enable a number of new wireless devices like the wearable or watches to be connected. In short, the connected services would get a big boost with the 5G.
