Facebook is planning to develop wireless radios as well as new fiber optic equipment. Once developed, the designs will be open sourced so that wireless carriers can use them to enhance internet speeds. By Doing so, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) believes telcos will be able to deliver all video as well as virtual reality content across the globe.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s Connectivity Lab has come up with what it believes is the world’s most accurate and scalable population density models. With the help of Artificial Intelligence algorithms, the tech giant was able to analyze 14.6 billion images 21.6 million square kilometers of imagery to come up with the population models.
The models announced at the Mobile World Congress will help the company understand how to best deploy satellites designed to offer low-cost internet connections across the globe. The amassed data according to Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) provides a clear insight of where people live.
The data is being released to governments as well as researchers and mobile operators who can use it for other purposes.
South-African born Elon Musk is going back to his roots with the opening of Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s first office in Africa. Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille has confirmed the news, as the electric car maker moves to make its products available in the region. Lille expects the opening of the office to help the city achieve its targets on renewable energy solutions.
Evan Rice, a former Green Cape CEO, is to spearhead Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s efforts in the African nation. The tech giant is reportedly planning to use the office to expand the market for its industrial-scale battery pack. There is no word on when the office will be up and running.
Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) has unveiled a new smart earpiece that features proximity sensors that ensure it connects wirelessly with a smartphone. Ones connected, the smart device should be able to provide information such as weather and social media updates as well as notifications for texts and missed calls.
Using a slightly different version of Google Now, the Earpiece should be able to provide navigation direction as well as message dictation. It works with any Android device running on Kitkat. Three hours of active use is the amount of time Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) guarantees on a single charge. There is no word on when the earpiece will hit the market as well as its pricing.
