Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) plans major announcement at MWC
Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is already trying to whet the appetite for its presentation at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The company has said it will announce a new in-car technology during the MWC event in Barcelona, Spain, which runs between Feb. 22 and Feb. 25. Connectivity and autonomous driving are expected to feature prominently in Ford’s MWC address.
Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is among the automakers with advanced self-driving vehicle technologies. The company has been training its autonomous cars to navigate the road in rain, snow and other usually challenging driving conditions to make the fit for all-weather driving.
Ford these days doesn’t miss an opportunity to talk about its modern car technologies. It is not just at auto shows that Ford announces new technologies it is developing or has developed, but it also takes advantage of the previously tech-exclusive events such as CES and MWC. Ford’s representatives dropped a number of announcements at the CES last month and they are planning to do more at the coming MWC event. Mark Fields, Ford’s CEO, will give a keynote address at the MWC. This will be the fifth consecutive year that Ford will exhibit at MWC, which the automaker in its own words describes as the world’s biggest mobile event. In 2015, MWC attracted 94,000 attendees drawn from 200 countries and this year’s event might be even bigger.
Potential areas of focus
Although Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is not disclosing everything about what it plans to unveil at MWC, the company’s presentation is expected to border on car connectivity, self-driving, customer experience and data analytics.
Fully autonomous cars
Self-driving is major part of Ford’s efforts presently. The company can be seen trying to beat or at least match Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Google in developing fully autonomous driving technology. As such, autonomous driving is expected to be a major part of Ford’s MWC exhibition.
When it comes to testing self-driving cars in adverse weather conditions, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) was ahead of Google with tests in rain and snow conditions. Google will be taking its driverless car for wet weather condition driving test in Seattle, Washington.
Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) has also come up with an app that allows drivers to check their home security while on the road or remotely start or lock the car while they are in the bedroom. Perhaps Ford might have more to offer for the app at the MWC event.
