Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ), T-Mobile US Inc (NASDAQ:TMUS), and Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) will in the coming weeks start offering BlackBerry Priv in their stores. The trio joins AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), which had initially signed a 60-day exclusivity agreement with BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB). The expanded distribution network is a big win for the Canadian company as it tries to make a comeback in the highly brutal smartphone business.

Launch Dates

There is still no word of when Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) and Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) will offer the high-end smartphone. However, T-Mobile CEO, John Legere, has confirmed that they plan to start offering the phone on the 26th of January. Chen remains optimistic with the phone when it comes to sales.

A distribution agreement with all the four major carriers in the US further reaffirms BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) commitment to the hardware business. Chen has already warned that they may be forced to exit the business altogether, should they fail to make money going forward.

Banking on Android

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is betting big on the hardware business especially on the use of the Android OS. With the operating system, consumers are guaranteed a bigger app base than in the previous models. The popular operating system offers additional software technology deficient of other devices. As a result, the Canadian company says it is seeing renewed interest on its hardware as more customers come on board to leverage its security capabilities.

Success with Android has already made the company rethink a change of strategy when it comes to its hardware products. Chen has already confirmed that they are working on two other products that will run on the popular OS. The announcement continues to spur talk that the company may decide to go Android all-out, in pursuit of traction in the business.

Even with the ongoing talk about Android, BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) remains committed to its BES12 software platform. The platform continues to gain traction with the corporate world where security is of utmost importance. The software is especially helping the company bolster its efforts on the enterprise side of the business where competition continues to cause havoc.
