Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005935)(OTCMKTS:SSNLF)’s Smart Remote Control May Replace Your Other Remotes

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005935)(OTCMKTS:SSNLF) is expected to unveil a truly smart remote control device at the 2016 CES. That will be in addition to its lineup of smart television sets. Samsung’s smarter remote will be a result of integrating SmartThings Hub into its Smart Control remote. The promised remote is expected to be a universal controller that might end up displacing your other remotes in the living room.

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005935)(OTCMKTS:SSNLF)’s smarter remote to be announced at the CES will not only come with the capability to control your television set, but a number of other connected devices. For example, the smarter remote control will be able to immediately recognize game consoles, set-top-boxes and Blu-ray players among other devices. With that capability, Samsung hopes that it should be easier switching between different types of content using its smarter remote.

Perhaps left unsaid is that Samsung’s smarter remote could render some of your native remotes obsolete as it renders seamless navigation cross multiple devices.

Tizen platform

It is emerging that Samsung’s universal remote is based on Tizen operating system. That is the same platform that the company has based its latest smart televisions and other mobile devices. Samsung has also been seen trying to build Tizen as an alternative to Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android. Perhaps shifting from Android to Tizen could give Samsung greater control over its mobile devices in the same fashion Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) controls its iOS devices.

Smart remote

Smart or universal remotes are not a completely new idea and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005935)(OTCMKTS:SSNLF) will only be traveling a path that others have travelled. However, the company is emphasizing that its smarter remote boasts the simplicity of operation and seamless functionality that others before it may not match.

Home automation dollars

To a greater extent, one gets the impression that Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005935)(OTCMKTS:SSNLF)’s smarter remotes are part of its play in the promising home automation market. Apple and Google are other technology giants vying for home automation dollars.
