How Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s Apple TV fares In Comparison To Others?

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has finally unveiled its new Apple TV as the previous generation TV was launched three years ago. Now, one can buy it either from the Apple Store or online. The utmost question is whether it can reach the top position or settle with also one among the rest of the TV streaming boxes. Let’s look at some of its competitors and come to a conclusion as to where it stands.

Available Features

Consumers decide based on the features and the pricing. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s new TV has come up with a fresh remote that has a touchpad, voice search, games, and Siri control. It has the compatibility with mobile devices, as well as, with gaming controllers. However, most of these features are also available with other multimedia streaming devices in the market. In fact some of them have more features than what Apple TV provides currently. The key point is that those additional features come at an attractively lesser price than the tech bellwether. It would not be an easy task to convince consumers.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has priced its streaming boxes at $149.99 and $199.99. The difference in pricing is due to the storage of 32GB and 64 GB respectively. On the other hand, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s Amazon Fire TV ‘s streaming boxes were priced at $99.99 and $139.99 with the gaming editions. Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android TV with Nvidia shield streaming boxes come with a single pricing of $199.99 while Roku 4’s streaming box was priced $129.99. The difference in pricing clearly demonstrated the differences in the available features.

4K Video Streaming

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Apple TV does not offer 4K video feature whereas all the three best streamers have made it available. Though 4K video streaming would not be a big deal breaker since there is not much of 4K video content available as yet, it is a feature that most of the latest devices contain. It might not be a big issue, but down the line it can prove to be a big thorn. Also, currently, most of the people have not gone in favor of a new 4K TV. For those who are having 4K TV, they might not prefer it. Apple TV does not offer any option to expand storage while the rest of three were ready to offer the feature.

In respect of storage, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Apple TV has two options. On the other hand, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s Amazon Fire TV has 8GB storage facility, while Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android TV provides 16 GB storage capacity. These two offer expandable storage facility while the storage capacity is higher in respect of Apple TV without the expandable facility.

Good Basic Media Streamer

If the consumer wants to have a good, basic media streamer, then Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s Amazon Fire TV could be a beter option than Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Apple TV. Similarly, if the consumers prefer a powerhouse media streamer, Android TV with Nvidia Shield would be a suitable option since it has a game controller. However, consumers need to shell out $49.99 separately for the remote. The Roku 4 has some solid features. That included headphone jack in the remote itself. That would make consumers to stream video content without any need to disturb anyone around. It does not have voice control but supports 4K TV if the consumers have. For users bought into the Apple ecosystems, Apple TV remains a solid choice. As the platform is expanded with the help of developers that could be accentuated even further.
