There are hints that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may be working on a newer version of Mac Pro computer, which would be coming about two years since the last upgrade. A code with Apple’s OS X 10.11 is the source of the hint about an upcoming updated Mac Pro. Apple’s Mac Pro, a high-performance workstation, can set you back as much as $10,000 to own.

It seems Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is not done refreshing its line of hardware products. After initially releasing updated versions of the iPhone, Apple TV and iPad, the company could be preparing something new on the workstation side with an upgraded Mac Pro.

Mac Pro upgrade hints

Although Apple has not formally announced an upcoming Mac Pro computer, there is a code within the operating system that powers Mac computers that seems to reference an upgraded Mac Pro workstation. The code gives hint about a computer device than features multiple USB ports and is similar to iMac, which seems to point to a Mac Pro computer.

Internal upgrades

The upgraded Apple Mac Pro device is expected to introduce several features upgrade internally. There are speculations that the device could run on Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s new Broadwell CPU and come with faster graphic chips from Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD). Additionally, the new Mac Pro is expected to ship with faster memory and storage.

For Apple’s high-end users, a Mac Pro upgraded has been a long time coming. Hopefully, Apple will compensate for the delays with a Mac workstation that introduces real improvements over the previous versions.

Spike in Mac sales

The rumors about a revamped Mac Pro in the works come after Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) recently reported uptick in Mac sales in its F4Q2015. Apple’s Mac computers defied softness in the PC industry with 5.7 million units sold in F4Q, up 3.4% YoY. For the full-year 2015, Mac sales hit a new fiscal record. The strong Mac sales helped Apple to mitigate the impact of declining iPad sales.
