Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) Rolling Out Personalized Mobile Notifications
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is rolling out an update to its notification feature on mobile, but only the U.S. is currently captured. The updated notification feels like a News Feed blended with Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Google Now. The move comes as Facebook predicts a sharp uptick in mobile purchases.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) continues to innovate for the mobile platforms. Part of the reason is that the limited screen real estate in mobiles requires careful presentation of tools and features. As such, the company has figured out that more personalized notification would enhance mobile user experience without upsetting subscribers in other areas.
Through the revamped notification feature, Facebook renders more contextual information in a Google Now-life fashion. For example, you will receive notification on information about elements such as sports scores and television shows from pages that you previously interacted with and Liked. Facebook also allows you to customize your notification based on multiple factors such as location.
Location-based notification feed
If your notification settings hinge on location, you will get updates on local events, nearby activities, trending news topics in your city, movies in the nearby cinemas and adverse weather warnings. Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) will also serve you with updates about nearby restaurants to eat based on information on Facebook pages for business.
Value for advertisers
It is currently unclear whether Facebook will open up the updated notification feed for advertiser participation. However, it seems to have most of what marketers would want to get their hands on to bolster customer interaction and boost sales in the process.
Facebook’s enriched notification feature will initially be limited to the subscribers in the U.S. with possible global rollout in the cards. The updated Facebook notification feed is available on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iOS and Alphabet’s Android platforms.
As Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) moves to bolster mobile notification with personalization and customization features, it also turns out that mobile is increasingly driving purchase conversions. According to Facebook, three in 10 digital purchases it converted in the months between January and May happened on mobile platforms. The company is predicting that mobile conversions will rise by 30% in the current quarter.
