Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s Virtual Reality Team Working On An App That Lets People Play Ping Pong Anywhere
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s virtual reality team is developing an app that could enable you to play games such as ping pong with friends, regardless of their location. It is not known when exactly the app might be available, but the project itself gives hints about how Facebook is thinking in virtual reality. The team at Facebook’s virtual reality subsidiary, Oculus VR, is behind the potentially amazing app. Oculus is also developing a virtual reality headset that is expected to arrive early next year.
The hint about an app that lets friends do crazy things in virtual reality was dropped by none other than Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, at the company’s headquarters. According to Zuckerberg, the Oculus team is working on an amazing app that will bring two different worlds together in virtual reality.
Playing ping pong underwater
Using the app, Zuckerberg said, people in different locations can play ping pong in virtual reality, and the setting of the game can be anywhere in space or underwater. With just the press of a button, you can switch to playing ping pong in space where you experience no gravity. With another press of a button, you can be underwater enjoying your ping pong game.
As it sounds, the virtual reality app that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s team is developing is trying to make possible things that are ordinarily impossible, such as playing ping pong underwater. But the magic of being able to do things that are impossible in real life is what excites Zuckerberg.
More real-life virtual reality
Beyond doing crazy things like playing ping pong in space, Facebook’s virtual reality will also support more real-life experiences. For example, you can share videos with friends in different locations and be there with them in virtual reality to enjoy the video together.
Facebook’s bet on virtual reality
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s interest for virtual reality saw the company pay about $2 billion to acquire Oculus VR.
