Let’s Connect The Dots And Find Out About Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Secretive Autonomous Car
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has reportedly hired automotive expert Doug Betts from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (NYSE:FCAU). The move seems to give away more hints about its secretive car agenda. Betts is said to have about 30 years of experience in the automotive industry. Also reportedly hired by Apple is famed European autonomous vehicle researcher Paul Furgale.
These hires and many other moves by Apple in recent times have led to allegations that the company is positioning itself to enter the electric car business. As you already know, Apple has not been willing to publicly comment on its car agenda if it has something up its sleeves. But what do you really end up with if you decide to connect the dots in Apple’s car allegations?
What is already widely known is that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has christened its stealthy electric car initiative Project Titan. Apple’s Project Titan is headed by Steve Zadesky, formerly of Ford Motor Company.
Sources have cited that Project Titan is actually something greater than simply an effort to enrich CarPlay. Apple is reportedly driving towards an autonomous car, which, if true, would mean that the company is out to take on Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL). For several years, Google has been working on a driverless car, which has already entered the road test phase with impressive results so far.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s car agenda also seems targeted at Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA). The company is reportedly interested in electric engines, which is Tesla’s domain. Apple has been hiring car battery experts and some of Tesla’s engineers to bolster its Project Titan initiative.
Development in Cupertino and Ireland
It has been reported that Apple has a secretive facility in Cupertino dedicated to Project Titan. Ireland is another place that Apple is planning what looks like a new factory complex and the company has also announced a vacancy of a managerial position. Apple is calling for candidates with automotive industry experience to fill the position.
Investment in auto technology
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is engaging a fleet of vehicles fitted with camera rigs to capture street view data. The company seems to be interested in enriching its Maps products, which will be useful for a driverless car project.
