Oracle Corporation (ORCL) Is The Top Integrated Platforms Vendors With 51.9% Global Market Share, Followed By IBM
Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) is the king of integrated platforms market. The company controls 51.9% share of the global converged platforms market, having raised its market share profile from 47.8% a year ago. International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) comes at a distant second to Oracle in the Platforms market.
In its analysis, IDC classifies integrated systems sector into two, namely Platform and infrastructure. Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) and IBM are the top vendors of platform. However, Oracle leads rivals in the platform segment by far.
While Oracle controls more than half of the integrated platforms market, IBM’s share in 1Q2015 was just 5.6%. In 1Q2014, IBM’s share of the market was 9.8%.
$2.1 billion market
Many enterprise technology providers are battling to expand their share of the market, which has become highly competitive. In 1Q2015, the global sales in the integrated systems market rose 8.3% YoY to $2.1 billion, according to IDC.
In a comment, IDC’s Kevin Permenter noted that integrated systems market is both competitive and dynamic. Players in the sector have been changing their shapes through reorganization, realignment and rebranding to grab the attention of customers. Integrated infrastructure is the rapidly growing segments of data center infrastructure.
On the infrastructure side, VCE is the market leader. VCE is ahead of names like Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) and Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) in that category.
IDC noted that when you compare infrastructure and platform sales, the former is growing faster and accounted for $1.5 billion of the sales reported in 1Q. Infrastructure sales rose 15% YoY in the quarter.
While Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) leads in the platform front, VCE, EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC) and Cisco dominate the infrastructure scene. IDC cited that actually other infrastructure vendors outside of these are losing market share.
Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) is currently shifting its business model to the cloud away from the legacy on-premise rendering.
