The Biggest PR Win By Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) — Free Windows 10
As Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is gearing itself to the launch of Windows 10 OS on July 29, the company seems to have achieved the biggest PR win in promoting the OS. The company needs to make the OS a more successful one in the light of unimpressive market share in the mobile OS space. The biggest software company disclosed recently that its Windows 10 will be free for anyone. The move is termed as a marking win and comes at the most opportune time for the company. It might also remove the bad memories of Windows 8.
Shift In Stance
There is a significant shift in Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s stance on making the OS free to anyone desiring it, Forbes reported. The company might have acceded to the demand of the users or the customers. Earlier, the software firm indicated that those who are having Windows 8 will be eligible to upgrade to Windows 10.
The latest announcement removes all the barriers. That means the users need not have to bother about the type of Windows version being used to become eligible for free upgrade. All that the users need to do is to install the Windows 10 beta version, build 10130. That will be upgraded to the Windows 10 Home retail version automatically when the company releases it on July 29.
It is a well-known fact that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is sitting with solid cash reserves on its side. With that, the company can afford to take few gambles to reach more people. In effect, the company wants to ensure that the free offer will boost its market share in every possible hardware device.
The company attaches much importance to Windows 10 since it combines both desktop, as well as, the mobile. The software release is probably the most keenly watched one in the last one decade. The software firm wants to have a strong foothold in the smartphone, as well as, the tablet markets where it is behind others. The biggest software company is ready to compromise profit margin to boost its OS market share across different verticals.
