T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) is shutting down its AWS 3G/4G in 24 locations before the third quarter ends. In three places, the company has already shut down the network, including Chicago, while Los Angeles and Houston will see the shutdown next month. There will be still 19 more to be shut down periodically before August 20 in the current year. The company is undertaking the initiative to establish its own LTE network.

Recycle Older Network

It appears that T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) is interested in recycling its older network technology since it moves towards the LTE network. For quite some time, the company has been planning such a move. Those who have LTE-powered phones will not face any issues. Other customers will need to upgrade their devices.

For its part, the company is ready to offer its customers an upgrade to a matching phone for free in case the customers get affected by the network shutdown. Alternatively, customers who  have Android phones listed by the firm will be able to upgrade without paying to the Alcatel OneTouch Pop Astro. Similarly, for BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s Classic, the telecom service provider will offer an upgrade free of cost though only to business customers.

Discount

T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) has also given other options to its customers, who are affected by the shut down. That included its 4G LTE HotSpot Z915. Similarly, signal booster customers will also be able to get the 4G LTE signal booster. The most significant point of the offer is that the company is also ready to provide a discount of $100 if the customer does not like any free devices and prefers another device with EIP.

Telecom service providers are moving towards fourth generation LTE network to get quick signal and better speed that is best suited for smartphones. The company’s move is in line with the transition of the industry. Before the shut down, the customer would be getting a text message saying that the user would have to buy a fresh phone with 4G compatibility to use 4G data speeds.

Best Experience

The telecom service provider said that the company’s objective is to provide the best 4G LTE experience to its customers. For this, the company is ready to provide free device upgrades to its customers depending on the device that the customer presently uses. The company indicated that its customers will be given advance information about the eligibility before upgrading the network.

T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) clarified that the upgrades will differ based on customers, who can get a free device during their visit to its retail store. Alternatively, the company advised its customers to call 611 before the migration. The move is based on the fact the company is also sacrificing its earlier generation network airwaves for providing better LTE network.
