T. Rowe Price Group Inc (TROW), CUI Global Inc (CUI) and Hudson Technologies, Inc. (HDSN): Marathon Capital Management’s Best Equity Picks

In the latest regulatory filing, Marathon Capital Management disclosed that its equity portfolio increased to more than $237 million at the end of 1Q2015 compared to $108.5 million at the end of 4Q2014.

The fund reformed its portfolio mix in various ways, adding positions in 31 stocks and reducing holding in 31 other stocks. But that was just the tip of the iceberg as Marathon Capital Management did more during 1Q.

The fund sold out of three stocks during 1Q, with RF Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:RFMD), Lpath, Inc. (NASDAQ:LPTN) and EXCO Resources Inc (NYSE:XCO) bearing the brunt. The case with RF Micro Devices is a bit different because the company combined with TriQuint Semiconductor (NASDAQ:TQNT) to create an entity known as Qorvo Inc (NASDAQ:QRVO).

In an opposite move, Marathon welcomed seven new stocks to its portfolio, with the top-three new purchases being Rave Restaurant Group Inc (NASDAQ:RAVE), Gladstone Land Corp (NASDAQ:LAND) and Prudential Global Short Du Hig Yd FD Inc (NYSE:GHY).

In terms of sectors, Marathon Capital Management has its largest equity bet in Finance at 55% of total portfolio, followed by IT and Industrials at 15% and 12%, respectively. The fund’s other holdings are in Energy, Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors.

Overall, Marathon Capital Management has its largest single equity holdings in T. Rowe Price Group Inc (NASDAQ:TROW), CUI Global Inc (NASDAQ:CUI) and Hudson Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:HDSN).

Here is a brief look at these top-three prominent stakes in the basket of Marathon Capital Management.

Marathon Capital Management made a serious bullish move in T. Rowe Price Group Inc (NASDAQ:TROW), bumping its holding in the stock to more than 1.4 million shares worth more than $117.4 million at the end of 1Q. The fund owned just 5,825 shares valued at $500,000 as of the previous filing.

Marathon did keep CUI Global Inc (NASDAQ:CUI) as its second-largest holding by dollar value, but shuffled position in the stock by selling off some shares. The fund owned more than 1.2 million shares in CUI Global at the end of 1Q, representing a decrease from nearly 1.3 million shares at the end of 4Q. The new position in the company is valued at more than $7.3 million. The previous holding was worth about $9.4 million

Marathon Capital Management eliminated some of the shares it holds in Hudson Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:HDSN) during 1Q, such that it closed the quarter with about 1.6 million shares, below 1.7 million it owned in the previous report. However, dollar value in Hudson Technologies appreciated during 1Q to more than $6.7 million from about $6.3 million.
