BlackBerry Ltd (BBRY) Developing Security Solutions For Government to Expand More Into Mobile: John Sims

Demand for mobile security has been on the rise thanks to the widespread usage of smartphones and tablets for professional and personal use. Security has always defined BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB), seen by its solutions finding their way into key government installations as well as being turned to, by corporate executives who are always in dire need of privacy based on what they do. In an interview with Fedscoop, BlackBerry president of Global Sales, John Sims, reiterated the company’s desire to develop solutions that would enable government departments to expand more into mobile by incorporating mobile systems.

Everything around the world is switching to mobile as key operations as well tasks continue to be carried out on mobile devices, arousing concerns related to the security of content shared by these devices. BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has been expanding its solution not only to cover BlackBerry devices but also devices running on iOS and Android OS.

Sims points out that end users are slowly switching to mobile devices, but their efforts are being restricted by strict policies put in place to secure any content shared.

“The end users are changing, and their expectations are changing and they are looking for more consumer grade kind of capability on their device. They really don’t want to carry two devices, they’d like to carry one device and use it for personal as well as use it for their government work as well,” said Mr. Sims.

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has already announced plans to partner with Samsung as the company moves to win more enterprise customers using the Korean company devices for their day to day operations. The Canadian company is working on solutions that will enable customers to carry out their professional work as well as personal on a single device.

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) through BES12 is providing a highly secure platform that accords staff the highest levels of security when managing their professional work, right from their personal devices. A number of government departments have opted to crack down on the usage of personal devices for work purposes an aspect that Sims believes will change as devices with high levels of security come into being.

“I think we will see a step in the direction of devices being able to be used for personal but only if you use one of a certain choice of devices and so there will be some prescriptions there, of what’s so okay and what’s not okay. It will be a step in the right direction,” said Mr. Sims.
