Sears Holdings Corp (SHLD) Shows Off Digital Product Signs for Appliances
Sears Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:SHLD) has something new to bolster its competitive edge – digital signs. The retailer is automating its stores and the use of digital signs is promising to bring far more benefits both to the company and those that interact with it. So far, hundreds of digital signs have been deployed in the company’s home appliances department, and there are plans to do more.
Sears Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:SHLD) always seeks to make shopping a more convenient task for its customers and associates, which goes all the way to explain the idea behind the digital sign initiative. The issue of digital signs is not only helpful for shoppers, but also associates of Sears because they gain more time to do what they know best, rather than having to replace signs when prices change.
Accurate price details
Starting last year, Sears started the digital sign implementation, rolling out digital pricing signs at more than 300 stores under its home appliances department. The benefits of the digital signs, among other things, are ensuring more accurate pricing and giving shoppers more details about specifications, color choices, ratings and reviews.
By deploying digital signs, Sears Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:SHLD) is able to reduce the amount of paperwork in its operations, especially where printing of signs is involved. This step is also having a positive impact on the environment. The company rolled back more than 100,000 paper signs and replaced them with digital signs last year.
Digital signs not only allow for more accurate price display, but also allow the store to share helpful information with its members in a matter of seconds.
The company has deployed tablets to display the digital signs. Members can touch the tablets to access more details about the appliance that interests them. The tablets also allow shoppers to read reviews about a particular appliance they want to buy.
Supporting product research
Sears Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:SHLD) has also made it easy for shoppers to do thorough research about its products from the comfort of their homes. What they need to do is enter their email in the digital sign tablet and have more information delivered to their inbox so that they can read at home to ensure that they have the right information when they set out to buy the product in the future.
Sears Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:SHLD) plans to deploy digital signs in another 250 stores this year under the home appliances segment, while testing the same in other departments like shoes.
