Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) announced
changes to achieve the stated goal of the News Feed, which is to show you the content that matters most to you. The company stated that is constantly trying to give users the right mix of updates from friends, public figures, publishers, business, and community organizations you are connected to. With this goal in mind, the company made several updates today.
Today’s Updates: Three Changes
The company is incorporating feedback received from users rating personal News Feeds and made three updates which they hope will improve the experience of the News Feed.
The first change targets users who don’t have a lot of available content and relaxes a rule from showing multiple posts from the same source, if there are no other options. The second change insures that content posted directly by friends you care about such as photos, videos, status, updates or links will be higher up in the News Feed so you are less likely to miss it. Third, the company through feedback is eliminating and/or demoting stories about their friends liking or commenting on a post in the News Feed.
Facebook warns that the impact of these changes on Page owners will vary considerably based on the composition of your audience and posting activity. Post reach and referral traffic could potentially decline based upon these changes.
