71% of Teens Still Prefer Facebook Inc (FB)
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has been the subject of criticism in the recent past on suggestions it has ‘lost its touch’ among teens as more networking sites continue to encroach on its turf. However, Pew Research Center is painting a different picture altogether, refuting suggestions that the network is dead and buried in terms of attracting young folks.
Solid User Base
Despite the ongoing concerns, there is no evidence that Facebook is losing its mark in the social space, having grown its user base from 12 million users as of 2006 to the current highs of 1.39 billion. Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR), which was supposed to offer the biggest threat to Facebook dominance, continues to face problems of its own, having struggled to clock even half of Facebook’s numbers.
A report, posted by the Pew Research Center, paints a different picture to remarks made by Daniel Miller, a Professor at the London University College, who affirmed the website is dead and buried. The Pew Research Center attests that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is still the most popular social media website, affirmed by findings that 71% of teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 prefer the network compared to other platforms.
It is not a secret that teenagers use more than one social media form, combining the likes of Twitter and Snapchat with Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB). Of the 22% of teenagers who use only one social medium, 66% opt for Facebook, affirms Pew Research. Facebook numbers are further compounded by the fact that 13% of the remaining teenagers use Instagram with Snapchat accounting for a mere 3%.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s growth might have slowed compared to its early years, but there is no doubt it remains the king of the social media space. Its growth trajectory is further evidenced by the growth of its employee base, from 450 as of 2007 to the current highs of 9,199, an indication of just how the network has grown, from a young website to a powerful establishment.
The fact that more than a fifth of the world’s population uses Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) at least once a month put to doubts allegations that the network is dead and buried.
