iPad Pro Production Reportedly To Be Delayed By Apple Inc. (AAPL)

On the back of stagnating iPad sales in the recent quarters witnessed by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), it is reportedly delaying the commencement of manufacturing a larger-screen type of the tablet. While there has been no official information from the company, it has reportedly been witnessing a delay in getting display panels; Bloomberg reported, quoting those familiar with events.

Delays In Production

Initially, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) had scheduled to commence the production of its 12.9-inch-screen tablet in the current quarter. However, this has now been pushed to sometime around September this year.

The company seems to be looking to make a new large-screen iPad, which would be part of its CEO, Tim Cook’s, plans to give a big boost to the product line. This was because it recorded a drop in sales in the last four continuous quarters. However, there has been no communication from the company on the size of the screen. Interestingly, the company is facing rivalry within its product-range.

For instance, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s recent launch of iPhones in September have a bigger screen size and faced competition for its iPad sales. Presently, the company has been making 9.7-inch display iPad and 7.9-inch screen iPad mini. The bigger screen could boost the initiative of the company’s CEO to make its products further appealing, especially to business users.

Growth Opportunities

For iPads, the target segment is undoubtedly the business, which remained a growth opportunity. This was because the gadget could be used as a laptop replacement also. According to IHS Technology, tablets sales are projected to surge to 101 million units in the year 2018 to businesses, governments, and institutions. In 2013, tablets recorded 19 million units in sales. Currently, there are consumers who are migrating to bigger smartphones from tablets.

Interestingly, billionaire investor Carl Icahn, wanted Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) take the opportunity to reinvigorate iPad sales. According to him, this was one of the reasons why the stock looked undervalued.
