Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Working On Pebble Support for Windows Phone
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is reportedly developing an app to support Pebble, a move that could make Windows Phones more attractive to users. Pebble does not natively support Windows Phone, even the latest Pebble smartwatch, known as Pebble Time, ships without Windows support. Microsoft is testing the Pebble notification app internally, but there is no guaranteed that the company would roll it out to the public.
Internal testing of the Pebble support app
Sources have revealed that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is busy building an app to support Pebble Notifications on its Windows Phone devices. Descriptions and screenshots of the app have been revealed and they clearly point to a work in progress for Pebble support. However, Microsoft is currently running the test of the app among its employees and outsiders cannot get a feel for the Pebble Notification app until it is made public. It is also unclear whether or when Microsoft would make the app available to public users.
Mass rollout not assured
Pushing out the Pebble app for Windows Phones would be a great move for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to improve the interaction of its platform with more third-party devices. Still, Microsoft could choose to only test the Pebble notification app over Bluetooth, and avoid rolling it out to mass users. That is possible given that Microsoft already has its wearable device, Microsoft Band, which works very well with Windows Phones.
The latest Pebble smartwatch, Pebble Time, ships with support for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iOS and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android handsets.
Pebble’s Pebble Time, features significant improvements compared to the earlier versions. One of the notable tweaks in Pebble Time is a color LCD screen, embedded microphone and revamped interface.
The launch of Pebble Time comes when Apple is readying its own version of the smartwatch, known as Apple Watch, which is expected out in April. There is also a wide range of Android Wear devices already on the market, which will give Pebble Time competition in the wearable market.
