GoPhone Plan Subscribers To Get More Data From AT&T Inc. (T)
Customers on AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T)’s GoPhone service will be able to enjoy some more benefits that come in the form of data allotment additions and free calls to Mexico on certain plans. The move comes at a time the company is trying to woo customers back to its network, especially those that want to call Mexico, a popular country among its mobile subscribers. Other carriers, such as T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), also offer competitive rates on Mexico calls.
On the side of data allotment, GoPhone customers will now get 1.5GB for $45 a month, up from 1GB. Those on the $60 a month plan will enjoy 4GB of data, up from 2.5GB. AT&T already offers unlimited texting to customers on both the $45 and $60 a month plans.
Unrestricted voice calls
For voice calls, customers on the $60 a month GoPhone plan will also be able to make free calls to Mexico. The unlimited calls under the $60 plan will be available to both mobile and landline numbers in Mexico. The introduction of unlimited phone calls to Mexico for $60 plan customers will replace the previous charge of one cent per minute for calls to Mexico. According to AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), Mexico is the most frequently called country among its wireless customers.
Verizon charges a fee per-call to Mexico and T-Mobile charges $10 for unlimited calls to landline only and $15 for unlimited calls to both mobile and landline calls to Mexico.
AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) recently completed the acquisition of Iusacell, a move that increased its footprint in Mexico and exposes it to nearly 120 million Mexicans covered by the Iusacell network.
Attractive prepaid plans
As competition heats up in the market, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has been bumping up benefits for its prepaid customers. In addition to GoPhone announcing boosts to data buckets and free calls on certain plans, AT&T’s Cricket Wireless also recently announced data allocation boosts. Cricket announced a time-bound 20GB data plan for $60 per month. It also announced unrestricted calls to Mexico for the customers on at least a $50 a month plan.
GoPhone is AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T)’s subsidiary which offers prepaid services. The customers on GoPhone are freed from annual contracts.
