AMZN, EBAY: What Does The Latest Report On Same-store Sales From ChannelAdvisor Corp (ECOM) Say?
ChannelAdvisor Corp (NYSE:ECOM) released, January 2015, samestore sales (SSS) that showed Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) doing better than rival eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY). However, each of the companies made improvements in various segments in the latest report compared to the previous one.
ChannelAdvisor Corp (NYSE:ECOM) disclosed that eBay’s SSS performance for January was 6.8% compared to 27% at Amazon. However, the two e-commerce companies increased their SSS performance from December.
eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) auction’s January SSS declined 16.2% year-over-year, below a 12.9% drop recorded in the previous month. However, eBay’s fixed-price rose 7.3% year-over0year in the latest report and also managed to beat a 5.7% gain in December. EBay Motors segment, which includes parts and accessories, has their latest report revealing a 13.4% increase, above a 12.6% in the previous report.
ChannelAdvisor Corp (NYSE:ECOM) reported two data points for Amazon around FBA. Amazon achieved a 23.7% year-over-year increase in FBA as a percentage of Amazon GMV. The other FBA measure is non-Amazon, and it was up 54.8% year-over-year in the latest report.
As for the supplemental Search data, the latest report returned 8.1% increase in Search SSS, a gain that was supported by a 9% increase in clicks during the month of January 2015. The Conversion Rate (CR) rose 4% year-over-year to 3.37%. AOV jumped 2% year-over-year, but CPC declined 17%, primarily because of the headwinds in mobile traffic. The decline in CPC drove down cost by 10%.
Coming to the Google Shopping supplemental data, ChannelAdvisor Corp (NYSE:ECOM) reported overall Google Shopping for the month of January 2015 rose 10.1% year-over-year, trailing a 13.2% gain in the previous month. However, the Conversion Rate and AOV for Google Shopping increased 2.9% and 14.8% year-over-year, respectively.
3PM and CSE
Other 3PM gained 27.2% in the latest report but slowed down from a growth of 28.5% in the previous report. CSE or Comparison Shopping Engines was impacted by the strength of Google Shopping that it recorded a 9.4% decline in January compared to a 2.3% decline in December.
ChannelAdvisor Corp (NYSE:ECOM) noted slower growth in Google Shopping, eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) Search and CSE in January 2015. However, Amazon and Other 3PM achieved growth that surpassed the 15% e-commerce growth rate estimated by ComScore for January 2015.
