Fresh rumors have emerged about SAMSUNG ELECT LTD(F)(OTCMKTS:SSNLF)’s upcoming smartphone device – Galaxy S6. It is speculated that the Korean electronics giant may unveil the device at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March. In fact, some leaks say that Samsung may launch Galaxy S6 on the first day of the tech conference on March 2.

Can tradition hold this time?

Samsung does not comment on rumors about its products, much less their launch date. However, the company has often used the MWC event to make some big product announcements, and it is expected to hold on to that tradition this year. In 2014, Samsung took advantage of the MWC event to unveil Galaxy S5 alongside other devices.

Galaxy S6 variants

Galaxy S6 is expected to feature a number of tweaks not only to set it apart from its predecessors, but also reveal efforts by Samsung to reinvent itself. The company has seen its profits declining in the recent times, mainly because of competition from Chinese rivals. Therefore, it needs to differentiate its products more by giving them unique designs and more power.

Samsung is expected to unveil two versions of Galaxy S6. One model is expected to feature a metal casing, although it is currently unclear the extent of metal use on the body. The other model of Galaxy S6 is expected to feature a curved screen, almost similar to that of the new Galaxy Note Edge.

Round-face smartwatch

Some other reports indicated that Samsung was developing a new smartwatch with a rounded face. However, as with the rumored Galaxy S6, the company has also not made an official comment on the design of the wearable.

Things may look different

As the Mobile World Congress draws closer, more details about what Samsung is preparing to unveil are expected to emerge. The company is known for making last-minute changes to its products and some of what has already been discussed about Galaxy S6 or the round-screen smartwatch may or may not be there in the final product. Profits at Samsung fell 37% in the December quarter.
