Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Orders Up Self Order Kiosks For Hardees


Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) showcased a self-order kiosk solution for CKE Restaurants Inc. at the annual Convention and Expo of the National Retail Federation. The kiosk would run on Windows 8 devices allowing customers of Hardee to customize and place the orders.

New Experience

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) said that this was one instance of how the company was able to give retailers a new dimension to reinvent the customer with a new experience. Currently, the Dell Optiplex 3030 All-in-one gadgets are deployed as a trial run in thirty restaurants. This included the recently redesigned kiosk-featured restaurant in Tennessee’s Nashville. In the next few months, CKE Restaurant’s Hardee would roll out to more kiosks in additional restaurants.

In tune with the trend, i.e. tapping the youth, CKE indicated that its target was young, the hungry millennials besides younger, as well as, older customers as they love the ordering through kiosks. The kiosks not only take orders from customers, but also relay it straight to the kitchen. This ensures that customers get their food accurately, as well as, more quickly. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) said that the employees could just update the kiosk menu to add either seasonal offerings or do any price adjustments. Aside from this, there was also provision to add language capabilities to match with the customer base of a store.

Management Comments

CKE Restaurants’ SVP and Chief Technology Officer, Tom Lindblom, said that the self-ordering kiosk provided its customer with a fun-filled and user-friendly means to manage their order. He said that customer expectations are changing more frequently, and its alliance with Microsoft enabled CKE to improve the restaurant experience apart from better serving its customers’ needs.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s GM of Worldwide Retail for consumer goods, hospitality and travel, Tracy Issel, said that Hardee was changing its way of interaction with its customers. As a result, making the process of ordering was not only streamlined, but was also fast and personal. The company is also working with other retailers to exhibit personalized and flawless experience in real time through the cloud, as well as, on smart devices.
