LG and Volkswagen choose BlackBerry Ltd (BBRY) QNX for Future Automotive Smart Solutions
BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)(TSE:BB)‘s QNX Software Systems has announced an alliance with LG Electronics’ Vehicle Components Company and Volkswagen to use QNX based solutions and build future infotainment systems, digital cluster instruments and advanced driver assistance systems or ADAS. QNX just announced and demoed their new QNX OS and systems at CES 2015, with the help of concept cars from Jeep and Maserati. Earlier this week at CES, LG also announced an alliance with Mercedes-Benz to team up for self-driving cars.
In the past, QNX and LG have worked together for several projects including telematics production programs. QNX will provide LG with the latest technologies such as the QNX Neutrino OS, the QNX Momentics Tool suite, the recently announced QNX Acoustics for voice processing, QNX Car for infotainment and the QNX OS for the safety of driving which includes ADAS or advanced driver assistance systems.
Won-Yong Hwang, the Director and Head of AVN Development department:

QNX offers smart automotive solutions such as infotainment, safety and telematics systems, which have been deployed to more than 50 million vehicles from Acura, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Toyota, and Volkswagen.

Additionally, Volkswagen officially announced that QNX will be providing them with infotainment systems powered by the QNX Neutrino OS, and QNX middleware technologies. These new smart solutions will be fitted in the latest 2015 series Volkswagen cars such as the Touareg, Passat, Polo, Golf, and Golf GTI. Smart systems such as the RNS 850 GPS navigation suite on the Touareg will provide support for real-time traffic details, reverse camera display, voice controls, climate controls, Bluetooth, and Google services such as 3D Google Maps and Google Street View.
