BlackBerry Ltd (BBRY) QNX Now In 50 Million Vehicles

QNX Software Systems, a subsidiary of BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)(TSE:BB), disclosed that over 50 million vehicles are using its software systems of infotainment, as well as, telematics systems. The company claimed that it was a clear winner in the automotive software segment, especially in infotainment.

More Growth Predicted

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s unit said that it would continue to retain its leadership position for many more years and expects to grow to 56 million units in 2020 from 16 million units recorded in 2013.

QNX said that over 40 automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) use its software including Acura, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Toyota, and Volkswagen. The software includes QNX acoustics middleware, QNX Neutrino OS, and the QNX CAR Platform for infotainment, which is used for connectivity modules, digital instrument clusters, and handsfree systems apart from head units.

For instance, Audi TT’s 2015 model included the virtual cockpit. Similarly, the infotainment systems of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) vehicle models reflect the pure scalability, as well as, the flexibility of QNX technology.

Continued To Extend Reach

BlackBerry’s subsidiary continued to extend its reach among the automotive market coupled with products portfolio, as well as, services. This includes the new QNX OS for Automotive Safety, which was certified Operating System by  ISO standards due to its deep experience in critical applications to address the issue of digital instrument clusters demand.

QNX Software Systems’ global director of business development, Andrew Poliak, viewed that powering over 50 million vehicles was a big landmark. He said for nearly one and half decades it was enjoying the confidence and the trust of the leading automakers, as well as, automotive tier one suppliers. He added that the automotive sector was regularly evolving, and its priority was to offer platforms, which has the reliability, flexibility, and performance. It would enable its customers to meet their needs to develop differentiated, as well as, compelling, products.

QNX in VW Cars

Yesterday,  QNX, announced that infotainment systems powered by the QNX® Neutrino® Operating System (OS) and QNX middleware technology are now shipping in several 2015 Volkswagen vehicle models, including the Touareg, Passat, Polo, Golf, and Golf GTI.
